Wanted felon on the loose

ANAHUAC– Over the weekend, news of a wanted felon on the run broke as the law enforcement looked to locate the man after he reportedly fled into the Anahuac Channel. 

A search got underway before dark on Friday, Aug. 15, after the Chambers County Sheriff's Office alerted the community via social media. 

According to the CCSO, Samual Sanford, 48, of Hitchcock, fled toward the channel and was last seen swimming across the waterway toward the marsh. 

A search was called off after dark out of an abundance of caution in the area, as the CCSO continued to monitor the area for any signs of Sanford. 

Sanford is described as 6'1" tall, weighing 220 pounds. 

He is wanted on five warrants at this time, including: 

• Unlawful possession of a firearm 

• Driving While Intoxicated – third offense 

• Assault on a peace officer 

• Evading arrest with a motor vehicle 

The CCSO is asking anyone with information on Sanford's location to call 409-267-2500. The public is asked not to approach him and call 911 immediately if they come into contact with him.
