Sterling stuns Barbers Hill 23-14
BAYTOWN– Elijah Lewis rushed for three touchdowns and the Baytown Sterling Rangers pulled off a crowd-stunning shocker over the Barbers Hill Eagles 23-14 on Thursday night at Stallworth Stadium.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in district play. The Rangers are now 4-1 and 2-0 in district.
Lewis had a 5-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and then Sterling added a 34-yard field goal late in the second quarter to lead 9-0 at the half.
A 12-yard touchdown run by Lewis early in the third quarter moved the Rangers lead to 16-0.
Barbers Hill would finally get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter with Brady Barrier finding Keagan Morton on a 40-yard touchdown, and after the two-point conversion was good, it was the Eagles trailing 16-8.
Later in the quarter, Barrier scored on a short run, and the deficit was down to 16-14. The two-point conversion failed.
With under a minute to go, Lewis put the game out of reach with a 5-yard touchdown run.
Barrier finished with 176 yards passing on 14 of 25 attempts. Morton caught five passes for 67 yards, and Anthony Bonnet added five catches for 62 yards.
The Eagles will have a tough challenge on Friday night when state-ranked Port Arthur Memorial comes to town.
