Community gathers for Fall Festival
ANAHUAC— Adults and kids alike enjoyed the weekend at the Anahuac Primary and Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization Fall Festival.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, Fort Anahuac Park was filled with many attractions, including games for kids, a bouncy house, food trucks, vendors and ummm - snakes!
"I think that the festival overall went very well, especially considering how many things were going on in town yesterday," said PTO Vice President Carrie Kohl. "We had lots of amazing vendors and sponsors who made it happen."
The event is a fundraiser for the organization, and this year marked the PTO's second year of the event.
Kohl said that funds raised by the sale of space at Fall Fest help support a number of Anahuac Primary School and Anahuac Elementary School activities.
Kohl added that the PTO organization sponsors popsicles at the APS Gator Parade and AES Gator Run, held at Kyle White Stadium. The PTO also volunteers during book fairs at both APS and AES to help things run as smoothly as possible.
PTO volunteers can also be spotted at school-sanctioned events, such as Granola with Grands and the AR Ice Cream Social that AES hosted in October.
"We recently hosted our first 'Monster Mash' at APS on Oct. 31 where the students were able to come to the gym for a fun dance party," Kohl said. "We had music, games, balloons, and all around it was a bunch of fun."
Kohl added that the PTO also participates in weekly lunch duty at APS, where members help oversee Pre-K, kindergarten, first grade and second grade lunches, so educators have an opportunity to eat together.
"All in all, our goal is to foster a sense of community and pride amongst our schools, while also sprinkling in some fun," Kohl said. "We have an amazing group of parents who make what we do possible, and I couldn't be happier to be part of it."
