BIG SANDY– After a close opening period on Friday morning at the Big Sandy Tournament, the East Chambers Lady Buccaneers put the defensive pressure on Woodville, and that would lead to a 46-26 victory over the Lady Eagles.

Woodville led 8-7 after the first quarter of play, and then East Chambers tied the score at 11 apiece as Jimena Vargas scored off a nice assist from Jadynn Smith.

The Lady Buccaneers then took the lead for good as Smith connected on a three-pointer for a 16-14 lead.

Just before the end of the first half, Mikeala Quave scored on a drive to the bucket and East Chambers led 22-15 at the break.

The Lady Buccaneers came out on fire in the third quarter and built their lead to 15. Presley Simino grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to make it 26-17, and then Smith scored off an assist from Hallie Selby and the advantage was up to 32-20.

Simino followed with a score on a turnaround jumper and after a bucket by Smith on the inside, the lead had grown to 42-23.

Selby then grabbed an offensive rebound and scored while she was fouled, and East Chambers was cruising at 45-23 with 3:03 remaining in the game.

Quave led the Lady Buccaneers in scoring with 15 points and Simino added 12. Smith chipped in with seven points.

On Saturday, East Chambers won the Big Sandy Tournament, beating Trinity 48-41.
