Hardin duo combines for 45 in 56-30 win over Anahuac

HARDIN– When the 1-2 punch of Hardin is on, the Lady Hornets are a tough team to beat, and that was the case when the Anahuac Lady Panthers visited last week.
Last Tuesday, it was the combo of Brooklynn Tristan and Triniti West that combined for 45 points, and Hardin came away with a 56-30 win over the Lady Panthers in district action.
Tristan finished with 23 points and West had 22. Anahuac's Lanicia Schonberg had a strong game for the Lady Panthers with 15 points.
West got the Lady Hornets rolling early on as she scored on a drive, and then nailed a three-pointer, and then went coast-to-coast after grabbing a defensive rebound and Hardin was leading 10-3.
Tristan then connected on a three-pointer early in the second quarter and the Lady Hornets advantage was 13-3.
Trailing 15-2, Schonberg grabbed an offensive rebound and scored while she was fouled to make it 15-4.
Moments later, it was Schonberg making a nice move for another score to cut the deficit to 17-7.
Hardin then scored the next six points, capped off by a West score off a nice pass from Tristan and the Lady Hornets led 26-9 at the half.
Early in the third quarter, the lead ballooned to 30-9 on a score from West.
Schonberg then picked up a nice steal and score, and then added another bucket off an incredible drive to the hoop while she was fouled and Anahuac trailed 33-13.
Tristan then made the score 38-14 with a nice drive and score, but Schonberg would answer by grabbing a defensive rebound on one end and then taking it coast-to-coast to the other end for a bucket and the score was 38-16.
Just before the end of the third quarter, it was Callie Henicke hitting a jumper for the Lady Panthers, cutting the deficit to 41-18.
Henicke started the final quarter by hitting another jumper, making the score 43-20.
Emma Calhoun scored for the Lady Hornets on a nice assist from West and the lead was 45-20.
Tristan then connected on an NBA three-pointer, running the advantage to 53-23.
Julissa Sandoval hit a three-pointer for Anahuac late in the game, making the score 53-28.
Henicke finished with 6 points for the Lady Panthers.
Anahuac will host Orangefield on Friday night, while Hardin will travel to Kirbyville.
