THOUGHTFUL THINGS
The Call to Ongoing Kindness
Kindness is not meant to be a momentary act, but a continual posture of the heart. Scripture teaches us that true kindness flows from a life surrendered to God and expressed daily toward others. In a world that often rewards self-interest, God calls His people to live differently—marked by compassion, patience, and love that does not grow weary.
The Bible reminds us that kindness is a fruit of the Spirit, not merely a personality trait. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith” (Galatians 5:22, KJV). Gentleness and goodness are evidence of God’s Spirit working within us, shaping how we respond to others, even when it is difficult. Ongoing kindness requires dependence on the Lord, especially when our natural response would be frustration or withdrawal.
Jesus Himself modeled relentless kindness. He healed the sick, welcomed the outcast, and showed mercy to those society rejected. Even in moments of exhaustion, He continued to serve. “Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful” (Luke 6:36, KJV). Our kindness is a reflection of God’s mercy toward us—freely given, undeserved, and abundant.
The book of Proverbs speaks clearly about the power of consistent kindness: “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness” (Proverbs 31:26, KJV). Kindness is not only shown through grand gestures but through daily words, attitudes, and actions. A gentle answer, a listening ear, or a helping hand can bring healing to a wounded soul.
Ongoing kindness also requires perseverance. There will be times when kindness goes unnoticed or unreturned. Scripture encourages us not to grow discouraged: “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9, KJV). God sees every act of love, even those done in secret, and He promises reward in His perfect timing.
Kindness has the power to soften hearts and point others to Christ. “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35, KJV). When believers choose ongoing kindness, they become living testimonies of God’s grace.
May we daily ask the Lord to help us walk in kindness—not just when it is easy, but when it is costly— trusting that our small acts of love can make an eternal difference.
