Magnolia West cruises past Cleveland 49-8

The second was better than the first one but unfortunately the Cleveland Indians put themselves in too much of a hole in the first 24 minutes and finished on the short end of a 49-8 score to Magnolia West on Friday night at Indians Stadium in a district tilt.

Cleveland took the second half kickoff and chewed up all but 35 seconds of the third quarter as they marched 78 yards on 17 plays with Tyric Cannon scoring on a 3-yard run. Quarterback DéVonte Robertson then converted the two-point conversion run to make it a 42-8 deficit.

Magnolia West finished the scoring midway through the fourth quarter on a Jaydon Berryman to Kyle Poissoit 14-yard score. It was all Mustangs in the opening two quarters as they quickly made it 7-0 on a Hunter Balbo 4-yard score.

A couple of minutes later, Magnolia West added to their lead with Brock Dalton connecting with Nick Joseph on a 34-yard score with 6:33 left in the opening quarter.

Late in the first quarter, the Mustangs had made it a 21-0 game on a Jacob Friedrich 14-yard run. Magnolia West got it’s next score with the defense as a fumbled snap rolled all the way into the end zone in which J.T. Phillips fell on it for a touchdown and the Mustangs had a 28-0 advantage with 10:54 left in the second quarter.

Magnolia West increased their lead to 35-0 a couple of minutes later with Joseph scoring on a 15-yard run and their final score of the first half came with 2:10 left in the half as Dalton connected with Trey Leggett on a 58-yard score.

Robertson led the Indians with 80 yards rushing on 24 carries, while Johnny Harris-Hines added 41 yards on the ground.

Cleveland will be on the road next Friday night as they travel to play the Magnolia Bulldogs.
