Knight makes proclamation

At the Liberty County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, Liberty Country Judge Jay Knight made a proclamation for Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center and the Liberty County Child Welfare Board. He proclaimed the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month in Liberty County.

Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center is a nonprofit organization that helps minimize the trauma associated with child abuse investigations in Chambers and Liberty County. The organization works with prosecutors, law enforcement, CPS workers, mental health professionals, medical professionals and volunteers. They provide a child-friendly, neutral and non-institutionalized environment, so each victim feels safe telling their story. One of the essential purposes is to keep victims from having to repeat their stories of trauma multiple times. Bridgehaven’s well-trained staff are professionals who specialize in taking the testimony of children in a neutral environment through building trusting relationships and using non-suggestive techniques. Bridgehaven provides services for approximately 350 children each year.

The Liberty County Child Welfare Board is a group of ten individual volunteers appointed by the Liberty County Commissioners who actively support staff, caregivers, foster parents, and volunteers who are involved in supporting the welfare of children who are abused or neglected.
