The Liberty County Hospital District has formally launched a campaign in support of a referendum to build a new 51,000-square-foot Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center, as well as a separate freestanding clinic just north of downtown Dayton.

Read moreThe Texas Coast braced for a major storm this week, as one can never reasonably predict the impact of a tropical system with any certainty, and thankfully Hurricane Nicholas did not pack much of a bunch once it decided on its route, at least not in the Liberty County area. Nicholas made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane early Tuesday morning just after midnight, coming on shore in eastern Matagorda County near Sargent Beach. The storm then worked its way inland and eventually through the Liberty County area on Tuesday as a tropical storm.
