Police are investigating the discovery of a set of human skeletal remains, off FM 1409 between Entzminger Street and Ripkowski Drive, at the site of a land clearing project in that area Thursday afternoon in Dayton. After the discovery, Texas Rangers joined the Dayton Police Department in the investigation.

The filing deadline for candidates in the Republican and Democratic Party Primaries came and went this past Monday afternoon. Anyone hoping to hold political office this goaround has filed the necessary paperwork for a place on the ballot. Locally all of the Liberty County elected officials are members of the Republican Party, with one exception. That was the lone candidate to file paperwork as a Democrat, with Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Ronnie Davis seeking his 11th term in that office. He will draw a competitor in the November General Election, with Republicans Pamela Smith and former Constable Jimmy Belt vying for their party’s nomination.

Last Friday, we had an exciting visit; just as the afternoon was winding down, some local gentlemen stopped by the office with something interesting. The men Danny Cupit and Richard Smalley had made a discovery while searching the attic of Cupit’s father, Glen. They found an antique clock that Cupit believes used to hang somewhere in Liberty.
