This week the Senate passed Senate Bill 1, the Senate’s version of the budget for this year. The budget includes over $11 billion for children and teacher public education support, $8 billion for mental health support, including an almost $20 million increase for children’s mental health programs, and over $25 billion for highway improvements and new construction. The budget is a reflection of our priorities this session and took over six weeks to put together.

Read moreOn April 8 at the Orpheum Theater’s Halloran Centre for Performing Arts in Memphis, Tennessee, Brian Blake, was named the Memphis Songwriters Association’s 2021 Songwriter of the Year. The nomination came as part of MSA’s annual “Songwriter Showdown” competition for area songwriters, which had 49 entrants from around the Memphis area. The top three songwriters were chosen by a panel of judges from the music industry in Memphis and Nashville. Blake, who currently resides in just south of Memphis in Nesbit, Mississippi, was declared the winner for his song “Move on J.D.”.
Read moreThe Liberty Middle School Theater Arts students are excited to showcase their upcoming performances over three nights of productions at the LISD Auditorium. The schedule will be as follows: Thursday the 22nd will feature four short productions by our first period students; Tuesday the 27th will have three short productions and a special solo monologue performance form our sixth period students; we will conclude on Thursday the 29th with our seventh period students who will present four final short productions. All shows will begin at 6:00 pm, we will continue to observe established COVID protocols and will be asking for a $5.00 admission for adults; students are free. We look forward to seeing you at the show and thrilled that live theater is alive and strong in our great community.
