The Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns busted loose for five runs in the third inning and used six Liberty errors to knock off the Panthers at home on Tuesday night 6-4 in district action. Liberty is very much still in the playoff race while Hamshire-Fannett remains in second place in the standings. Panthers starter Joe Taylor made quick work of the Longhorns in the top of the first and Liberty quickly went to work in the bottom half of the inning. Mason Goudeau and Kaden Nolan each singled and then Caleb Ingram walked to load the bases. Goudeau then raced home on a wild pitch and the Panthers led 1-0. The score stayed the same until Hamshire-Fannett used a pair of errors in the third inning to put up five runs and grab a 5-1 advantage. Liberty got one of those back in the fourth as Palmer Simeon doubled home Konner Taylor to make it a 5-2 game. The Panthers kept clawing away and made it a two-run deficit with another run in the fifth as Nolan doubled and then scored on an Ingram ground-out and Liberty was within 5-3. The Longhorns then got a run back in the sixth frame to make it a 6-3 game. Down to their last at-bat, the Panthers did not go down without a fight and pulled within 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Joe Taylor singled and then Ingram scored Taylor with a single and Liberty was still fighting. Hamshire-Fannett then ended the game on a Panther fly ball to center field to grab the district win. Nolan finished with three hits while Ingram added two hits and a pair of RBI’s. Taylor struck out five in his four innings of work on the mound. Ben Reidland pitched two innings and then Ingram finished the game out in the seventh. Liberty will visit Splendora on Friday night for a 7 p.m. first pitch.

Tarkington led 4-1 after an inning and a half and then saw the Lady Bulldogs score a run in the bottom of the second and then two more in the third inning to tie the score at 4-apiece. The Lady Horns then took the lead for good in the fifth with a couple of runs. Savannah Boyd singled and then Morgan Rice reached on an error which allowed Boyd to take third with Rice taking second base. Ragan Tyler then bunted into a fielder’s choice and both Boyd and Rice scored to give Tarkington the lead at 6-4. Brianna Boddie and Jersee Moore each had two hits apiece to lead the hitting attack. Boyd got the win on the mound and finished with four strikeouts. The Lady Horns will visit Onalaska on Friday night to close out the regular season.

Therefore, in order to once again allow visitation within the county jail to resume, Sheriff Rader submitted a Jail Visitation plan to the Texas Commission On Jail Standards which was approved. He also consulted with local Health Authorities and the decision was made to open the county jail to visitation effective on April 19th, 2021.
