AMDD names new officers
ANAHUAC– Anahuac Municipal Development District continues to oversee new and unique projects that enhance life around the community, and recently, they selected their new leadership slate.
AMDD named its 2026 officers Nov. 18. Director Michael Morehead will serve as chairman with Monica Rodriguez as vice chairman and Sean Perry as secretary/treasurer.
In a related manner, the names of Rodriguez and Perry have been submitted to the city of Anahuac for a two-year renewal.
The board also discussed plans for a new city animal shelter, with AMDD paying up to $100,000 toward the facility's cost. The structure has been enlarged to 40 feet by 60 feet, with AMDD Office Manager Annette Abernathy continuing to work on acquiring the land.
Directors discussed the findings of a free engineering study conducted by Schaumburg and Polk for city sidewalks. The study is one cog in the wheel toward applying for a sidewalk grant from the Houston-Galveston Area Council.
Board members will review the study in more detail to determine whether sidewalk placement in areas of the city, including along parts of Miller Street and Main Street, is feasible.
Directors reviewed proposals from various digital sign companies for a new sign at the corner of FM 563 and Miller Street. AMDD is working with a local business to add a large digital sign at the intersection.
The board approved a $174,000 budget for 2026. AMDD, created by voters in 2008, collects about $14,000 per month from businesses within the city through a one-half-cent sales tax.
AMDD was created to boost economic development in Anahuac with projects such as a pier and pavilion on the channel at Fort Anahuac Park, pier at Lake Anahuac, splash pad and pickleball courts as some of its many projects through the years.
