WARREN – The Anahuac Panthers scored nine runs in the fifth inning, and that was more than enough runs in a 14-3 victory over the Warren Warriors last Tuesday night.

The Panthers clinched the final playoff spot in District 22-3A with the victory.

Trailing 2-1 heading to the fifth inning, Anahuac assembled a big inning.

Braedon Edmonds homered to lead off the framer to tie the score at 2. Logan Trotter and Zion Moore followed as they each scored on a passed ball and the Panthers led 4-2.

Moments later, it was Brayden Sutch scoring two more with a single and the advantage was 6-2. Luke Hoagland and Oscar Garza each drove in runs with singles, and the lead was 10-2.

Anahuac added some insurance runs in the seventh inning, with Hoagland driving a pitch over the left field wall for a three-run homer and the Panthers advantage was 14-3.

Lane Hall pitched into the fourth inning and finished with seven strikeouts. Derek Dominy pitched the final three innings.

Hoagland finished with three hits and four RBIs, while Sutch also had three hits and drove in a pair of runs. Edmonds, Garza, Dominy and Ty Wilcox each finished with two hits.

The Panthers will face Huntington in the opening round of the playoffs in a best of three series at Big Sandy High School. Game one is set for Friday at 7 p.m., while game two is scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m., and if necessary, game three will follow that contest.
