CCSO nets two cocaine busts
In the course of a week, the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office managed to take over 70 kilograms of suspected cocaine off the streets; in fact, the two busts occurred within a couple of miles of one another.
The first occurred on Saturday, Sept. 27, when the CCSO Special Investigations Unit, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, made a traffic stop near mile marker 810 on Interstate 10.
Once the stop was initiated, CCSO deployed K-9 Sigma, who made a positive alert, and officers were able to locate 35 kilos of suspected cocaine from a car hauler.
Two suspects were identified in the vehicle as Nursultan Muktavalier of New York and Mukhit Danibekov from Pennsylvania. Both men were booked into the Chambers County Jail.
A hold has since been placed on both men by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
On Oct. 3, the CCSO announced a second bust, this time near mile marker 812, where the Interdiction Team uncovered 31 grams of suspected cocaine.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Robert Berriel of North Carolina, was booked into jail.
