WALLISVILLE– A routine traffic stop turned into a pursuit last week that ended in Beaumont and with the arrest of a Louisiana woman.

According to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, May 13 a deputy initiated a traffic stop on I-10 eastbound in Wallisville at mile marker 817 for traffic violations.

The driver of the car, identified as Mya Norris of Louisiana, was said to have exhibited alleged signs of criminal activity and asked for consent to search the vehicle. The woman denied the search and a K-9 was requested to the scene.

As deputies waited, the woman was said to have fled back to the car on foot and begun a pursuit.

According to reports, she traveled eastbound and was finally stopped at South Major Drive in Beaumont.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, Norris was found in possession of a handgun and placed under arrest.

Norris was charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and unlawful carry of a weapon.

CCSO is thanking the efforts of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Beaumont Police Department for the swift assistance in apprehending the suspect.
