Dagley closer to county's top role
Next year, Chambers County is poised to seat its first new county judge in nearly three decades, as incumbent County Judge Jimmy Sylvia is not seeking reelection, and now it looks like one of his cohorts on the court is a step away from taking his spot.
County Commissioner Precinct 4 Ryan Dagley, a one-term incumbent, announced last week that he was seeking that post. As of the official deadline on Monday, Dec. 8, he was the only Republican candidate for the position.
"I am proud of all we have accomplished during my tenure as County Commissioner, from supporting our law enforcement officers and lowering the tax rate to enhancing the quality of life with better roads, drainage, and amenities," Dagley said.
According to his campaign website, he has four issues he is running on:
- Prioritizing Public Safety and Fully Funding Law Enforcement
- Lowering Taxes and Ensuring Fiscal Responsibility
- Improving Roads and Drainage in the County
- Enhancing Quality of Life with Family-Friendly Amenities
The Republican has served the community as a commissioner and, formerly, as an alderman and mayor of Beach City; now he hopes to have the opportunity to serve in the county's top administrative role.
He is a business owner and founding partner at Saturn Equities, with over 25 years of experience in the real estate business.
"My family and I have lived in Chambers County for over 20 years, and with Judge Sylvia's retirement, I am eager for the opportunity to continue serving our community as the next Chambers County Judge," Dagley said.

It was unclear whether any Democratic candidates had filed, but it is worth noting that no Democrat holds elected office in the county. Barring an unexpected challenge from that party, or a possible write-in candidacy, Dagley will assume the role of county judge at the end of Sylvia's term.
We will have a complete breakdown of the candidates seeking office across Chambers County in next week's edition of The Progress.
