East Chambers defeats Sabine Pass 61-50
WINNIE– Colby West scored 24 points and Dayvon Wallace added 10 points and 10 rebounds as the East Chambers Buccaneers opened their season with a 61-50 win over Sabine Pass on Friday afternoon.
West got the Buccaneers going early on by scoring the game's first five points as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Sharks.
Sabine Pass then went on a 12-2 run to move in front 12-7.
The Buccaneers answered with a run of their own with buckets by West and Evan Callahan, and then a three-pointer by Callahan gave East Chambers a 19-12 lead.
The second quarter saw the Buccaneers extend their lead to 32-20 as Rashad Hale connected from downtown. The lead ballooned to 40-23 on a couple of free throws by Cameron Dillard in the third quarter.
The Sharks then scored 13-straight points to pull within 40-36 late in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, it was Darius Edmonson hitting a pair of free throws, and then a bucket by Dillard had the Buccaneers back in control at 52-40.
Sabine Pass was led in scoring by Cohen Cole with a game-high 26 points.
East Chambers (1-0) will next play in Lake Charles on Saturday afternoon.
