Pounds moved to Anahuac in 1962, becoming a deputy of the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office. In 1976, he became sheriff, serving in the role for four years. After serving as sheriff, he worked for the Chambers County Road and Bridge and Engineering Department, retiring in 1990.
He is a faithful member of the First Methodist Church of Anahuac. Currently, Pounds enjoys hunting, fishing at Smith Point, watching the Dallas Cowboys and mowing his yard.
