Schools fair well on STAAR EOC exams
Schools across Chambers County performed well on the End-of-Course exams during the Spring 2025 semester, maintaining or exceeding state averages.
End-of-course exam results were released last month, measuring students' performance in U.S. History, Algebra I, Biology, and English I and II.
ANAHUAC ISD
Anahuac Independent School District scores were solid across the board, meeting or surpassing state averages in three of the five tested subjects, including 100% of students meeting "Approaches Grade Level and Above" in U.S. History; the state average was 94%.
In Algebra I, AISD students outperformed the state average of 76%, achieving a mark of 81%.
In Biology, 91% met "Approaches Grade Level and Above," meeting the state average on the test.
In English I, students came in just under the state average of 66%, with 61% meeting the target. English II students achieved a combined mark of 67%, just under the state average of 71%.
EAST CHAMBERS ISD
ECISD performed well, only coming in under the state average for students meeting the "Approaches Grade Level and Above" standard in Biology, with 87% hitting the mark.
In Algebra I, students came in eight points ahead, with 84% meeting the mark.
In English I, students hit the mark 74% of the time, while in English II, they achieve 67%, both figures well ahead of the state average.
In U.S. History, students hit the mark at 98%.
BARBERS HILL ISD
The county's largest district performed remarkably across the board, surpassing state averages as students achieved master's levels at a high rate.
In Algebra I, BHISD was 20 points ahead of the state numbers, with 96% of students meeting "Approaches Grade Level and Above."
Biology students were six points ahead of state numbers, with 97% meeting the mark.
In English I, students were 22% ahead at a rate of 88%, while English II students were 18 points ahead of the state at 89%.
Finally, in U.S. History, students met the mark of 97%.
In the coming weeks, we will examine the STAAR scores for third through eighth grade students across the county.
