Hundreds of people engulfed by the blazing heat in the small Texas town of Liberty underwent a phenomenal experience this past Saturday, March 25. At roughly one in the afternoon, this country community got rocked by the alternative rock and roll band RoZY as they took the main stage at the annual Liberty Jubilee.

The female- led band shredded and tore through the warm spring air with their eccentric guitar riffs, well- timed breaks and shearing vocals. The band’s frontwoman Zoe Flores, with passionate vocals and a warm rhythm guitar, along with her sister Molly Flores on the hard-hitting drums, form the heartbeat of this ensemble. It’s rounded out with electrifying lead guitar licks from Brandon Martinez and Aris Weathersby, playing a heavy bass line in perfect time with the drum beat.

They performed beloved classic rock renditions such as Guns N’ Roses “ Paradise City” and some Van Halen hits such as “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love.” The real treat came as they played their new, original hit single “One For All,” which has garnered daily radio play on the Biggest Rock station around- 94.5 the Buzz via the Home for the Holidays competition where local bands submit original music, and they won.

RoZY hails from Houston and has been playing together for five years. In an interview with singer/ guitarist Zoe, she has described their sound as alternative rock that has influences of musical legends such as Joan Jett, Queen, Motley Crue all the way to the Bee Gees... and it shows.

Their hopes of playing the notorious Buzz Fest in 2023 via another competition, in which the winning band gets to open the concert on the main stage with massive international headlining bands following, is a testament to how incredibly talented this group is.

Zoe and her sister Molly were constantly exposed to music from a young age. They grew up with their father playing rock drums and their mother always listening to disco and, of course, the infamous game “Guitar Hero.”

After the sisters showed an interest in music, their parents sent them to “ Camp Jam,” a weeklong music camp for children. After that, the stage was set, the lights on, and sound checks were mastered with these two to start their rigorous and dedicated journey into rock and roll. With a refreshingly original sound from the generic modern music scene, the entire band danced, head banged, jumped around and moved on stage as if they owned the whole place. Rightfully so.

There is nothing like having a small, out- ofthe- way country town like Liberty host such an edgy band as RoZY. Every community needs musical and cultural diversity, and it was evident that the Jubilee goers received this new sound for the local festival. With everyone cheering, people singing along to songs, and nods of approval towards their friends, the crowd took this new alternative rock band in. Just as if they would with cool sips of sweet tea on a hot Texas day.
