(1) The Liberty County Historical Commission will dedicate a county historical marker honoring the Dayton City Hall this Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the building next to the Cross Roads area of downtown. (2) Jamie Carter Bollich, the oldest daughter of Cleveland native Keith C. Carter and his wife Ghita, will be on hand this Saturday, October 2. 2021, in Huntington, Texas, to sell and sign the African-American historical novel she co-authored with Herman Wright, Jr. Of Jasper at the Catfish Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The novel is entitled Arvetta after Herman's grandmother. Frank Mills, aka Rebecca Stark Nugent, will also be there to sell and sign her book If The Devil Had a Wife, an expose about Nelda Childers Stark. The Angelina County Genealogical Society rented the booth to sign up new members; they will also have membership sign-up forms for the Vernon Genealogical and Historical Society and the Cherokee County Genealogical Society. Free copies of the Huntington Herald will be available, too.
(3) Bill Lazenby will discuss the origins of Old Salem in Newton County when he speaks at a specially scheduled meeting of the Deep East Texas Archeological Society at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the Iris and Anne Howard Civic Center on 213 East Court Street in Newton, Texas.
