Join us at the Colbert- Rosenwald School Museum for a special celebration of Black History Month! Each Saturday in February, we are open from 10 am -2 pm for a special exhibit dedicated to showcasing the school’s history, once known as Annie E. Colbert School, which taught segregated African-American students in all grades from 1927 to 1967. Colbert is one of 5,000 U.S. schools forged by a historic early 20th- century pact between Booker T. Washington and Julius Rosenwald. Today, the structure is now known as the historic Colbert- Rosenwald Museum.

On Feb. 25, we invite you to join us for our Black Excellence Day, where we will celebrate the legacy of the Divine Nine Black Greek Letter Organizations. This event will feature a presentation by Mrs. Sonya Woodfork ( Principal of Annie E. Colbert Elementary School and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.), and a speech by Mr. Travis Young ( DISD Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.) The event will also feature a D9 Stroll, a special presentation by Suella Rose (Book Club for Colored Girls), and musical selections by Mr. Adrian Driver.

We encourage you to wear your sorority or fraternity paraphernalia and your college’s colors on Black Excellence Day. This family- friendly event is perfect for all ages. Come learn about the rich history and culture of the Dayton community while gaining a deeper appreciation for the Divine Nine service organizations dedicated to academic enrichment, civic engagement, scholarship, and the upliftment of the Black community.

The Black Excellence Day event is located at 231 South Colbert Street, Dayton, TX, 77535.

Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact us at colberttigers37@ gmail. com or text Lynda at 832427-9096.

Let’s celebrate the legacy of Black history together! We hope to see you there!
