Hardin Happenings

Some exciting events are happening amongst Hardin ISD students, faculty and the town. This year, Hardin High School students are the District 23-AAA High School Academics Champions! The One-Act Play, Over the River and Through the Woods, has been racking up awards and receiving honors. On March 13, they competed for Bi-District at Sealy High School. Else Spurlock received All-Star Technician, Bailey McQueary received Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, Tristan Strickhausen and Jaden West received All-Star Cast Awards and Brooks McElroy IV was named Best Performer! The play advanced and will perform at HSPVA (Kinder High School for the Performing Arts in Houston, Texas) on April17 for the Regional Contest. Good show, Hornets!

Senior Paul Thonsgaard competed in the State Powerlifting Contest and placed 9th at the meet held in Abilene. His total weight was 1620 pounds! He has set a record for Hardin High School.

Everyone is very proud of the new sign located at the High School, and special thanks are given to First Liberty National Bank, Hardin ISD School Board, and HISD Maintenance. Hardin Juniors and Seniors are preparing for the prom. This year’s venue is Landry’s Boardwalk #1 in Kemah, Texas.

The photography class had a workshop learning about locations, natural lighting, posing and more. Instructor Amanda Kersh Key is well known for her photography business and can give much insight to these students. She took them on a trip to Downtown Houston. She said her students, “continuously amaze her!”

HHS cheerleaders have been volunteering at the T-ball concession stand. It does the little ones some good to see the older ones at their competitions. Great work, Sponsor Tiffany Rives Graham! Long-time Hardin ISD teacher Tom Catchings was named March Teacher of the Month. Mr. Catchings is much beloved and well known in the community. He was a referee for many years for UIL and other basketball games. At the Elementary, Mrs. Holli Lazard, a popular Pre-K teacher and Mrs. Tammy Votaw were named Teachers of the Month. Hardin Junior High named Mrs. Cheryl Ross as Teacher of the Month. This award is sponsored by Ann’s Seafood.
