HUNTSVILLE — The Dayton Broncos were just a hit away from pulling out a big win on Friday night in Huntsville.

Unfortunately, the Broncos could not come up with that hit, and Dayton dropped a 16-5A contest against the Hornets 3-2.

In a game that was moved from Dayton because of all the rain on Thursday, Hunter Wallace pitched well for the Broncos by going five innings and finishing with two strikeouts. Carson Abshire came in for the sixth inning and had two strikeouts.

The Hornets grabbed a run in the first and then added two more in the third to lead 3-0.

Dayton finally got the bats going in the sixth inning.

Andrew Soliz doubled, and Anthony Zuniga followed with a walk. Zak Wood then singled to load the bases. Grant Odom then lined a double down the left field line to score Soliz and Zuniga, and the Broncos were within 3-2.

Dayton would threaten in the seventh inning as Justin Hector and Ivan Lopez walked to put a couple of runners on before Huntsville went to the bullpen and recorded the last couple of outs for the win.

Odom and Wood finished with two hits each. The Broncos will play at Kingwood Park on Thursday night.
