HARDIN — Trevor Jones hit his fifth homer of the season, and the Hardin Hornets scored all the runs they would need in the first inning in a 15-4 victory over East Chambers on Tuesday in five innings.

Jones also added an RBI double and finished with two hits and three RBIs.

Hardin used five walks, two hit-by-batters, and an error to put up nine runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Hornets needed only four hits to do the damage. Hunter Whitehead had an infield hit for an RBI, and Korey Newkirk and Aiden Quintanilla each had RBI singles in the frame. Parker Buffington had a bases loaded walk for another RBI.

Hardin went to work again, leading 9-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning. Newkirk reached on an error, Jones drove a pitch to deep center field for a homer, and the Hornets led 11-0.

Buffington and Whitehead each walked and both scored on a two-run single by Jake Wells and the score was 13-0.

Hardin added two more in the fourth, including the Jones RBI double.

Jayden Phelps pitched four innings and struck out six in getting the win on the bump.

Luke Collins pitched the fifth inning to close things out.

The Hornets are now 7-5 on the season but, more importantly, a perfect 4- 0 in district. Hardin will travel to Orangefield on Friday night.
