On what had begun as a rain-soaked Friday ended with cool, clear skies and a Hardin Lady Hornets Class 3A Bi-District Championship, as they defeated Hempstead in a pair of games 4-2 and 7-6 to take their opening-round series 2-0.

Hardin hurler Reese Parker grabbed the win in both contests, allowing six hits, a pair of runs and striking out 12 in the opening contest. In game two of the series, Parker surrendered seven hits, five runs and six strikeouts, with a walk.

Offensively on the night, the Lady Hornets got solid effort out of Fayth Adams and Emily Cherry in the opening affair, while Haven Crump and Lillie Wakefield both came away with multiple base hits. Parker made her presence felt at the plate in both games, but she really helped her cause on the mound in game two, going 3 of 4 on the night.

The Lady Hornets advance to the area round in what should be a solid three-game series against the Woodville Lady Eagles this weekend. The teams will square off at the Lamar University Softball Complex, with a doubleheader on Friday night starting at 5:30 p.m., with the second game set for 7:30 p.m., there will be a third game, if necessary, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
