The Vindicator | Jerry Michalsky Hollie Thomas of Liberty rounds the bases after her 13th homer of the season on Friday night at Hamshire- Fannett.

HAMSHIRE - Every year at this time of the season, Liberty Head Coach Karen Slack has her Lady Panthers peeking right before the playoffs start. Suppose Friday night is any indication of things to come. In that case, things are looking very bright for Liberty’s playoff run as they grabbed another 21-4A District Title with an 11-0 victory in five innings over the Hamshire- Fannett Lady Horns.

Sophomore Abby Vickers had a huge night with three hits, four RBIs, and a home run. Hollie Thomas also went deep and had a pair of hits, while Brookelyn Taylor was again doing her thing on the mound by striking out 10 and allowing just one hit.

The Lady Panthers used a couple of errors in the opening inning to grab a 2-0 lead. Bailee Slack and Thomas both reached on an error and then Vickers drove one to the gap to score Slack and Thomas.

In the second frame, it was singles by Abby Key and Breezy Pantalion, which allowed Slack to drive in two more with a single and the score was 4-0. After a single by Thomas, Vickers had another RBI with a single and Liberty was already leading 5-0.

Key started the third inning off with a double and then moved to third as Slack reached on an error and Key would score for a 6-0 advantage. Reese Evans then made it 7-0 with another single. After scoring two more in the fourth to move the score to 9-0, Thomas and Vickers went deep in the fifth for an 11-0 lead. Taylor finished off the Lady Horns by striking out the side in the fifth to give her team the district crown.

The Lady Panthers will take on either Vidor or Lumberton in bi-district play this week.
