TARKINGTON - The countdown is on for Tarkington High School graduate Emily Lowe as she prepares to head out on her next journey at the collegiate level.

Heading to Angelina College in Lufkin on a softball scholarship, Lowe had choices of colleges she wanted to attend and what sport the former Lady Longhorn would play.

The three sports she excelled in high school during her entire high school career were volleyball, basketball, and softball.

Lowe also played in the SETCA All-Star basketball game in June after finishing her Lady Horns career with over 1,000 points scored.

At the beginning of the year, Lowe considered volleyball or basketball.

Enter Tarkington Head Softball Coach McKenna Fryar, and Lowe had a different look at things.

“Coach Fryar was a blessing for me when she took over the softball program,” said Lowe. “She has taught me a lot and has helped me add more details to my game. I learned a lot this past year and that helped guide me in making my decision for softball.”

So one would think playing three sports in high school and being named the Homecoming Queen, when does one have time for all of this?

“I know one speed, and that is always being on the go and just staying busy. I wouldn’t have it any other way. It all goes by so quickly, so I try to live every moment,” said Lowe.

And if you have ever seen Lowe in action on the court or the field, it all makes sense. She has one speed and it is always on high octane.

Although Fryar has left the prairie to take over the Head Coaching spot at Hardin High School, Lowe has continued to work with her this summer. “She has done so much for my game to help me get better,” added Lowe.

Lowe is also excited to play with her new college teammates.

“They are all there for the same reason as I am,” said Lowe. “That is to win games. Everyone is athletic and knows the game, so I am looking forward to playing with others that want it as bad as me.”

Lowe plans to major in science and one day would like to become a Dental Hygienist.
