NEW CANEY- In a game that featured 26 walks combined by both teams, the Dayton Broncos came from an 8-run deficit to tie the score in the seventh inning, only to see the Porter Spartans score nine runs in the eighth inning to grab a 17-10 win over the Broncos at West Fork High School.

The game was moved to West Fork from Porter because they needed turf to play with all the rain over the area. The messy conditions are a big reason the game featured so many walks.

The Spartans scored three runs in the first, and then two more in the fourth, and three more in the fifth to lead 8-0. That is when the comeback for Dayton started. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Broncos picked up a couple of runs. Justin Hector walked with the bases loaded to make it 8-1 and then a groundout by Grant Odom scored another run for an 8-2 deficit.

Dayton then scored six runs in the seventh frame, with the amazing thing about the comeback is the Broncos did it all with two outs on the board. Hayden Campbell reached on an error to plate a run and the score was 8-3. Aidan McSpadden and Hector both walked to load the bases. Holden Campbell then walked to score a run to make it 8-4. Odom and Tyler Threadgill each followed with walks to score two more and all of a sudden Dayton was within 8-6. Holden Campbell and Odom scored on a passed ball and the score was tied at 8-apiece.

Porter then put up nine runs in the eighth inning and led 17-8. McSpadden had a sacrifice fly and Holden Campbell singled home Sebastian Avila in the bottom half of the frame for a couple of runs, but the Spartans would get the third out on a pop-out to secure the victory.

Holden Campbell had a hit and drove in two runs at the plate. Hector had the other hit for Dayton and added three walks and an RBI. Odom also added a pair of RBIs. Hunter Wallace got the start on the mound and pitched four innings and finished with two strikeouts.

The Broncos will travel to Nacogdoches on Friday night.
