LUFKIN — It was one of those nights for the Dayton Lady Broncos defensively that they would just rather forget in a 16-5A contest at Lufkin.

Using the help of seven errors, the Lady Panthers gave Dayton their first district loss 11-4 on Tuesday night.

The good thing for the Lady Broncos is they play again today at home against Huntsville in a huge district contest.

Lufkin scored three runs in the first and second innings to move in front 6-0. Dayton committed four errors early, staking the Lady Panthers to the big early lead.

The Lady Broncos looked poised to make a contest of it in the fourth inning.

Ashlyn Didway reached on an error and then moved to second on a Chloe Whitehead sacrifice. Anevay Cantu followed with a single to put runners on the corners. McNeese State commitment Mika Anthony-Conner then singled to score Didway and the score was 6-1. Brooke Maddy would follow with another single to plate Cantu and Maxwell and Dayton was within 6-3.

Lufkin came back in the bottom of the fifth inning to score five runs to put the game out of reach and lead 11-3 heading into the sixth inning.

The Lady Broncos would get a run in the sixth as Cantu singled and then scored on an Anthony-Conner single to make it 11-4. Madi Alvarado and Jess Woods each pitched three innings for Dayton and did not allow an earned run.

Maddy led the hitting attack with three hits and two RBIs, and Anthony-Conner added two hits and a pair of RBIs. Cantu also finished with two hits.
