Shirley leads Tarkington past Hardin

Trace Shirley of Tarkington did it all on Tuesday night at Hardin.

Shirley struck out nine and allowed three hits while at the plate finishing with two hits and a pair of RBIs to lead the Longhorns to an 11-0 win over the Hornets on Tuesday night in district play. Scoreless heading to the top

Scoreless heading to the top of the third inning, Tarkington started to get the offense cranked up.

Dennis Hollingsworth reached on an error, and then Drendahl Kanada reached on a bunt single. Shirley hit a grounder to shortstop to plate Hollingsworth, and the Longhorns led 1-0.

Kevin McCarther then made it 2-0 with a run-scoring double in the gap.

Tarkington then put up a big inning in the fourth.

Bryan Mills and Clayton Primeaux started the inning off with singles, and that would be followed by an RBI single by Robby Bridwell to make it a 3-0 lead.

Hollingsworth then ran the advantage to 5-0 with a triple to plate Primeaux and Bridwell. Hollingsworth was awarded home on a balk to increase the lead to 6-0.

Kanada walked and scored on a double by Shirley to make it 7-0.

Leading 8-0 heading into the sixth inning, the Longhorns put the game away with three runs.

Keaton Lamberth had a double to score one, and then Bridwell walked with the bases loaded to make it 10-0.

Stephen Pavlat scored the last run with a groundout.

Hayden Sopchak pitched into the fifth inning and finished with two strikeouts.

Cody Turner had two hits for the Hornets while Grayson Creel had the other.

Kanada and Mills each had two hits apiece for Tarkington.
