Once Upon A Time…

THOUGHTFUL THINGS

As a child every little girl has dreamed of the fairy tale where her Prince Charming would come and rescue her, then take her away to this grand castle where they would live happily ever after! As we mature into adulthood, life begins and the fairy tale that we once dreamed of seems so far out of reach. And we soon realize that once upon a time defines something in history or form the past.

But I would like to tell you of a story of a young girl who did not really dream of fairy tale, but because she trusted and followed after God and obeyed his commandments, God positioned her into a place where she became mighty Queen! The story of Esther is a classic struggle between good and evil. It is a book about God’s sovereignty and His deliverance. And it is a book about trusting God and to do all that one can.

Once upon a time when a nation was at war, a beautiful young orphan girl named Esther was placed in a powerful position and found favor with the King so that she would one day save her people. Esther was from Jewish decent and her cousin Mordecai feared for her safety and forbid her to reveal it. The Bible says that the King was attracted to Esther and she won his favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen.

Now you would think that was the end of this story, however this is where the story begins. Because Esther was willing to trust God, she discovered Gods purpose for her life. Esther quickly became favored by all and was soon made Queen. Queen of a powerful kingdom yet her work had just begun. Esther showed amazing courage when she risked her life to go before the king to save her people, yet she knew that God had placed her here for such a time as this. Esther knew what she had to do. She asked all her people to fast for three days and nights, and this would have included fervent prayers to God for deliverance. So when Esther walked into the king’s throne room, she was wrapped not just in a beautiful robe but also in the prayers of God’s people. It wasn’t just the king in that room; God was there too.

We must remember that God is always with us, preparing places, opportunities, choices, and options ahead of us. We must trust God enough to be willing to so whatever He ask of us regardless of the outcome. Esther 4:14 - For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to the royal position for such a time as this. God will always make a way when we trust in Him.

Webster defines the term Once upon a time as this; at some time in the past; formerly. I do not want my happy ever after to be based on once upon a time. I want to be in the here and now fighting for God’s kingdom! Don’t let your past define you and allow the enemy to take what God has in store for you. Do not let your ministry, your calling become a once upon a time. Follow after God and allow Him to use you for such a time as this!
