THOUGHTFUL THINGS
Joy to the World
Christmas is a season that sparkles with lights, music, and celebration, but the truest joy of Christmas is not found in decorations, presents, or gatherings. Real joy is found in the birth of Jesus Christ— God’s greatest gift to the world. The Bible reminds us that joy is more than a feeling; it is a deep and abiding assurance that God is with us, for us, and working in us.
When the angels appeared to the shepherds on the night of Christ’s birth, they did not bring a message of fear, but of great joy. “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people” (Luke 2:10, KJV). That joy was not reserved for a few—it was for everyone. It was the announcement that salvation had come, hope had arrived, and darkness was about to be overcome by the light of the world.
Christmas joy is rooted in the presence of Jesus. When we focus on Him, our hearts are lifted beyond our circumstances. The world may be heavy with worries, loss, or uncertainty, but Christmas reminds us that God stepped into our brokenness to bring peace and joy. The prophet Isaiah spoke of this long before that holy night, saying, “Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder” (Isaiah 9:6, KJV). This child brought with Him not only authority and peace, but also lasting joy for the weary soul.
Joy at Christmas is also something we are called to share. It is reflected in our kindness, generosity, forgiveness, and love for others. As believers, we are reminded, “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4, KJV). Even when life is difficult, we can choose joy because our hope is anchored in Christ. The manger teaches us that God often works through humble and unexpected places to bring about His greatest plans. True Christmas joy shines brightest when we remember that Jesus is not only a baby in a manger, but our Savior, our Redeemer, and our ever- present help. As we gather with family, exchange gifts, and celebrate traditions, may our hearts be filled with the joy that only comes from knowing Him. “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11, KJV).
This Christmas season, let us hold tightly to that joy—the kind that lasts beyond the season, beyond the lights, and beyond the songs—because it is rooted in the everlasting love of Christ.
