THOUGHTFUL THINGS
Yet Love Remains
One of the most heartbreaking moments in the Bible is the betrayal of Jesus by Judas Iscariot—one of His own disciples. Judas walked with Jesus, saw the miracles, heard the teachings, and yet, for thirty pieces of silver, he turned Jesus over to His enemies.
Matthew 26: 14-16 ( KJV) says, “ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.”
Judas’s betrayal was not just an act of treachery— it was deeply personal. Jesus had washed Judas’s feet, shared meals with him, and called him “friend” even in the moment of betrayal. “And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.” (Matthew 26:50) Just as Jesus was betrayed, we too face betrayal in our lives. Sometimes it’s from a close friend, a family member, or someone we have poured our heart into. It stings. It confuses. And it can harden the heart—if we let it.
But Jesus showed us a different way. He did not retaliate. He did not speak ill of Judas. He did not stop loving. He fulfilled the mission God gave Him, even with a broken heart.
In Luke 6:27-28 (KJV), Jesus tells us, “But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.” That’s not easy. But it’s the way of Christ.
People today may still betray—choosing money, popularity, pride, or convenience over loyalty and love. Some may smile in our face and talk behind our back. Others may abandon us when we need them most. Yet, we are called to love like Jesus. That doesn’t mean we allow abuse or manipulation, but it does mean we guard our heart from bitterness and keep our spirit pure before God. Romans 12: 21 ( KJV) reminds us, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” Jesus overcame the greatest betrayal not with revenge, but with sacrifice and love. And He invites us to walk that same path.
So when betrayal comes, remember: you are in good company. And just like Jesus, you can choose love. Because love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:8, KJV) We invite you to visit us at The Family Church 9456 Hwy 146 N Hardin, TX. You can watch our services live via Facebook at @tfchardin.
