ANAHUAC— There were laughs and there were tears as Anahuac High School graduates shared heartfelt speeches and entertaining antidotes about an educator who impacted their lives.

Anahuac ISD Education Foundation hosted its annual Black and Gold Banquet for the top 10% of Anahuac High School graduates, with dinner provided by the skilled AHS culinary class.

“Students, you are the reason that some of these educators are still doing what they’re doing and I appreciate that,” AHS Principal Rebecca Green said. “Remember the impact that these educators made for you and go make that impact to somebody else.”

Graduates Tina Ly, Ryan Tu, Joseph Previte, Matthew Previte, Jesus Benavides, Ainslea Andrews, Logan Trotter, Yadire Escamilla, Gabriella Palacios, Christian Hernandez, Braedon Edmonds and Alexander Ford honored teachers they were inspired by.

Educators honored include Michelle Bond, BJ Garcia, Stacey Majors, Peggy Hill, Jason Cox, Daniel Andrews, Edd Trotter, Cindi Parish, Irma Moulton, Cherie Burns, Larinda Dobbs and Garrett Lane.

Educators ranged from administration to teachers and everything between, with one father and grandmother in the mix.

History teacher and department head Bond was moved to tears when valedictorian Ly spoke of the impact she had on Ly’s life.

“It hit me that what shaped me wasn’t just the school environment. It was the people,” Ly said. “And it was you, Mrs. Bond, who made me realize that great educators don’t just know your name, they know your story.”

Bond shared that Ly has pushed her to excel as an educator, adding that she has enjoyed their laughs, songs, dances, talks about life and more.

“I’m a better teacher today because of you,” Bond said.

Salutatorian Tu honored school counselor BJ Garcia.

“Mrs. Garcia takes great pride in her work and it’s always a pleasure to be able to talk to her and feel her passion through her words,” Tu said.

Garcia emphasized Tu’s positivity, saying he is always smiling no matter what.

“You are a true inspiration to not only me, but your peers as well,” Garcia said. “I can’t wait to see all the amazing things your future holds.”

Each student and educator shared their thoughts on one another, apart from Trotter and Edmonds who were playing in a baseball game.

“Educators...you give up time, give up money, give up all of your emotions for these kids. I cannot thank you enough for that,” Green said.
