Lady Eagles heading to State Semi-finals
DEER PARK– The Barbers Hill Lady Eagles softball team is heading to the State Semi-finals again after sweeping Angleton 2-0 and 8-1 in a Class 5A Region III Championship series.
Barbers Hill is now 34-3 on the season and they have won 24 of their last 25 games.
The Lady Eagles started the series off Thursday night and made a first inning run and a fifth inning run stand up in a 2-0 win over the Lady Wildcats.
Macie Bryant struck out 12 in the complete game performance while allowing just three hits.
Aybrie Corona reached on a single in the opening inning and would later score on a passed ball to make it 1-0.
In the fifth inning, it was Corona again accounting for the Lady Eagles run with a blast to left field and Barbers Hill led 2-0.
That would be more than enough for support as Bryant would strike out the side in the seventh inning and the Lady Eagles led 1-0 in the series.
On Friday night, it was game two, and Barbers Hill gave up an early run, but that would not hold up as the Lady Eagles went on for an 8-1 victory and a series sweep.
It was Corona again with the big bat by slugging a two-run homer, walking three times and finishing with three RBIs. Bre Norman also had a home run for Barbers Hill in the fifth inning.
Hailey Nutter picked up the win on the mound. The senior struck out eight while allowing only three hits. Izzy Lawrence added two RBIs and a hit.
The Lady Eagles will now face Smithson Valley in the State Semi-finals in a one game playoff on May 22 at 6 p.m. at Waller High School.
