BH sweeps Austin Anderson, takes regional championship

WALLER— The Barbers Hill Eagles swept past Austin Anderson 8-2 and 2-0 to claim the Class 5A Region III Championship last week as they move on in the playoffs.

The Eagles will now face Smithson Valley in the state semi-finals this weekend.

The series started on Thursday night at Weimar's Veterans Park with a game one 8-2 win for the Eagles.

Barbers Hill scored three runs in the second inning and then saw the Trojans answer with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Eagles put the game away with five runs in the final three innings.

Ryan Garcia led the offense with two hits and three RBIs, while Joseph Ponder finished with three hits. Landon Davis added two hits and a pair of RBIs and Cale Dunham had two hits.

Ayden Mooring picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles while finishing with four strikeouts.

Game two was played on Saturday afternoon in Waller, and the pitching of Jordan Davis and Aaron Fernandez combined on a two-hitter in a 2-0 victory over Anderson to win the series.

Barbers Hill picked up both of their runs in the second inning, with Garcia scoring on a passed ball and then Dunham scored on an error to make it 2-0.

Davis pitched into the fourth inning and struck out two, and Fernandez finished things up with 3 2/3 of work and had five strikeouts.

Adriano Hayes had two hits at the plate.
