Development district to help fund animal shelter
ANAHUAC— With city council still discussing a new animal shelter, Anahuac Municipal Development District decided to pitch in a hefty sum to make the dream a reality.
AMDD met on Tuesday, July 15, where directors passed a motion to allocate an amount not to exceed $100,000 towards the new animal shelter, initially proposed by Casey Hedges, owner of Crawfish Hideaway.
The amount was previously allocated for a soccer field and walking trail.
AMDD Chair Janice Jircik mentioned extensive garbage dumping occurring at the city’s boat ramp, supplied by AMDD.
Directors voted to fund no more than $1,500 for two signs prohibiting dumping and the installation of a game camera to deter dumping.
The camera will enable instant contact with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office in the event of violations.
AMDD is also researching grant opportunities to fund sidewalks for the city.
