Neece excited about Panthers football
ANAHUAC–This year's version of the Anahuac Panthers is looking for a return trip to the playoffs after missing out the last two years, and Head Coach Greg Neece is excited about his team and the talent he has coming back.
"We are going to be a different team from last year," Neece said. "We will be a more run-oriented team on offense that hopes to chew up the clock some, depending on the situation. We are still going to take some chances throwing the ball down the field."
The Panthers will be led on offense by quarterback Braydon Sutch.
"He throws the deep ball well and can also tuck the ball and get some yards running the football," Neece said.
Anahuac is also deep in the backfield with running backs Oscar Garza, Darius Richardson and Darion Williams.
When Sutch goes to the air, he will have some targets to throw the football to in Williams, Tre Smith, MyQuiet Davis, King Charles and Justin Netterville.
Up front on the line, Cole Willis will be the leader with Kayden Billiot, Adrian Torres and Zack Delacruz.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Panthers will be led by Willis and Netterville.
"We will be a little inexperienced on defense, so we will use the non-district part of our schedule to get some work in while getting guys some much-needed experience," Neece said.
Richardson and Torres will also be key cogs on defense, along with Kaden Campbell.
"Will need to develop some depth so we can give some guys that are playing both ways some breaks."
Garza will handle the kicking and punting duties and Sutch can also punt.
The season opener will not be an easy one as Anahuac heads down to Hitchcock on Friday night to face the Bulldogs, who are state-ranked in some polls.
The Panthers will then host Woodville at home the following Thursday at Kyle White Stadium.
