East Chambers outscores Kirbyville 58-52

KIRBYVILLE– If high scoring football is something you like, then Kirbyville was the place for you to be on Friday night as the East Chambers Buccaneers came all the way back from an 18-point halftime deficit to defeat the Wildcats 58-52 in a wild scoring affair.

Kirbyville was unstoppable in the first half, leading 46-28 at the break. The third quarter saw East Chambers pull within 46-36, but the Bucs put up 22 points in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Trailing 52-50 with 5:00 minutes left in the game, Koby Jones of East Chambers scored from 6 yards out for the game-winning score.

Kirbyville drove to the Buccaneers six-yard line before turning the ball over on downs.

East Chambers picked up a couple of first downs in running out the clock to get the victory.

The Buccaneers finished the game with 535 yards of total offense, with Jones rushing for 150 yards on 25 carries and four touchdowns. Quarterback JD Zurby passed for 338 yards and four touchdowns. Darius Edmonson caught three passes for 136 yards and a touchdown, while Colby West had three receptions for 114 yards and two scores. Luke Hampton added a 69-yard touchdown catch.

East Chambers is now 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in district play. The win clinched a playoff spot for the Buccaneers.

Orangefield will come to town on Friday night for a contest at Buccaneer Stadium.
