At the end of last week, Chambers County welcomed back recycling services to the area, beginning with a few collection stations.

On Friday, Jan. 2, Chambers County opened three Citizen Collection Stations, which is the first phase of the program.

Currently, plastics are the only materials able to be accepted but plans are in the works to expand services, given strong community participation.

Anahuac area residents may drop off recyclables at 1811 Belton Lane, Anahuac, from Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cove area residents may drop off recyclables at 8138 B FM 3246, Cove, from Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Those in the Winnie area may drop off at 47414 Interstate 10, Winnie. The location is open on Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Thursday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Items must be empty, clean and dry. Those who participate are asked to flatten boxes and keep food waste and other contaminants off of the recycled materials.

In addition to the three locations, the county is launching various initiatives, including the Bag it and Bring it campaign, focused on bringing awareness to the importance of recycling and the environmental impact of landfills.

Additional details will be announced once they become available.
