AISD begins search for new superintendent
ANAHUAC— The school board met over the weekend to discuss the superintendent role, a couple of new hires, and updates from the Texas Association of School Boards.
The Anahuac Independent School District Board of Trustees held a meeting on Saturday, Jan. 10, where the board decided to enlist Region 5 to assist in the search for a permanent superintendent.
Interim Superintendent Cody Abshier, Ed.D., looks to return to retirement after serving in the role for the last couple of years.
Abshier spoke kindly of the district, saying, “I have enjoyed it thoroughly.”
Abshier and Board President John Redman explained that Abshier was serving in a temporary role and that the next natural step was to search for a permanent replacement.
Abshier said he hopes to return to driving around the country once a replacement is found.
The board approved the hire of two additional educators, beginning this school year, an Anahuac Elementary School life-skills teacher and an Anahuac High School art teacher.
Abshier said the life-skills teacher came from Hamshire-Fannett Independent School District, and the art teacher was very experienced.
Abshier added that the art teacher’s previous principal spoke about the teacher’s positive impact on the campus as a whole.
The board also discussed some TASB updates during the executive session, though no decisions were made outside the session.
Updates related to policy changes resulting from the 89th Legislative Session.
According to the agenda packet posted on the AISD website, some discussions focused on staff policies and contract services, while others concentrated on students and instructional materials.
Those listed in the agenda packet included cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, facility safety and security, employee contracts and standards, and more.
As for student policies, some listed include lesson plans, instructional materials, grading and progress reports to parents, parent rights and responsibilities, crisis intervention, student safety and student discipline.
