MONT BELVIEU— A pair of upcoming projects will reflow traffic throughout Mont Belvieu, in hopes of significantly alleviating traffic backups.

Chambers County Commissioners Court met on Tuesday, Jan. 13, where Engineering Director Zachary Vogler discussed a new project involving the city of Mont Belvieu and the Texas Department of Transportation.

Essentially, six ramps will be flipped or relocated, and two new ramps will be added to the Interstate 10 roadway system.

“A lot of it’s going to be helpful for alleviating traffic backing up on the frontage road and onto I-10,” Vogler said, adding that the project will alleviate traffic from having to go through roundabouts and U-turns.

Although the plan is still subject to change, some ramps will be flipped to alleviate traffic at the signal off FM 3180, and people should be able to get onto FM 1409 without having to go through the signal light, according to Vogler.

The ramps on the eastbound and westbound sides closer to FM 565 will also be affected.

Commissioners approved an advanced funding agreement with TxDOT for the project.

In a separate road project, Natalie Lopez, assistant director of engineering for Mont Belvieu, explained that the city is extending Langston Road from Texas 146 to Texas 99, also known as the Grand Parkway.

Lopez said the city is currently working on expanding Langston Road from Texas 146 to Eagle Drive. Under construction is Franklin Drive to Texas 99, and under design is the Grand Parkway to where Langston dead ends.

The city requested that the county donate its right-of-way for the expansion, which the county approved.
