The Dayton Lady Broncos moved to 2-1 in district play on Friday night with a three-game sweep over the Cleveland Lady Indians 25- 6, 25-14, and 25-10. It was actually a sweep for the whole program as the JV and freshman also won their matches. Leading the way for the varsity Lady Broncos in kills was Jerrica Keener with 8, and Laila Beck finished close behind with 7. MyKala Souders led the way in assists with 17. Dayton will host Conroe Caney Creek on Friday afternoon.

Hardin started district play at Trinity with 25-13, 25-12, and 25-4 scores over the Trinity Lady Tigers. Georgia Vance led the way with 11 kills, 11 assists, 6 digs, and two aces. Josie Rollins finished with eight kills, and Makinnley Smart chipped in with five kills and two blocks. Kylee Land added 9 assists and 5 digs. The Lady Hornets hosted Coldspring on Friday afternoon and won 25-6, 25-6, and 25-13. Vance had 9 kills, 2 aces, 10 assists, and 5 digs. Rollins was close behind with 8 kills, 10 digs, and 3 aces while teammate Maddy Fregia also had 8 kills to go along with 6 digs and 3 aces. Juliana Smart finished with 4 kills and 7 aces, and Land had 19 assists and 4 aces. Hardin will host New Waverly on Friday afternoon.

The Broncos found what they were looking for a win beating Goose Creek Memorial Patriots (score 45-7). What an impressive win for the Broncos football team, Coach Ware and his coaching staff, and, Broncos fans. Yes, fans of the Broncos can finally say the drought is over. After going all last season winless and starting the 2021 season 0-2 the team needed to get things turned around.

Read moreThe Liberty Panthers improved their 2021 season record to 2 and 1 Friday night, defeating the Diboll Lumberjacks by a score of 14-7. All the scoring was done in the 2nd quarter, putting the game on the line with every possession in the 2nd half. Liberty’s offense banked a total of 277 yards on 53 plays. Senior quarterback Kaden Nolan was 2 for 6, passing for 49 yards. Liberty’s leading rusher was Mason Goudeau, who had 112 yards on 12 carries and 1 touchdown. The leading Panther receiver was junior Gavin Fontenot, with one reception for 44 yards. Liberty’s defensive squad was on the field a lot. They were led by linebackers Colby Ewing and William Waldrip, holding the Diboll passing attack in check by putting pressure on their quarterback. A new standout for Liberty was kicker/ punter Jaden Shimp who walked on last week at the request of friends on the team. He punted five times in the 2nd half and consistently pinned Diboll deep in their own territory. His longest of the night was a 54-yarder. He was also perfect on his two extra-point attempts. Liberty did turn the ball over on a fumble in the 4th quarter.

The most recent coming off a huge win to open District 8-5A-I competition against the visiting Waller Bulldogs, 31-6. The big win was sweet, as the Bulldogs thrashed the Indians last year 49-8.
