Football returned to the prairie this past Friday night for a contest between the Tarkington Longhorns and the Shepherd Pirates. Offensively it was a slow start before the Horns could muster any points, and unfortunately, the Pirates had already found their stride by the time Tarkington did, defeating the boys in maroon and gold 44-14.

Huffman had eight returning offensive players from a team that went all the way to the Regional Championship last year, their most successful season on record. Their returning senior quarterback Luke Thomas and senior receiver Gunnar Gates were a combination that Liberty’s excellent defense just couldn’t stop.

Hardin was the only team in Liberty County to secure a win in the opening week of play. The Hornets were set to play their Homecoming game against the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats this Friday night, however that game has been canceled and details on a a rescheduled Homecoming will come at a later date.
