The Huffman-Hargraves Falcons took advantage of their speed and experience Friday night when they handed the Liberty Panthers a 28-0 loss in the season opener. Huffman had eight returning offensive players from a team that went all the way to the Regional Championship last year, their most successful season on record. Their returning senior quarterback Luke Thomas and senior receiver Gunnar Gates were a combination that Liberty’s excellent defense just couldn’t stop.

The Hardin Hornets got off to a big start to the 2021 Texas High School Football season last Friday night with a 14-7 victory over the Kountze Lions. Hardin was the only team in Liberty County to secure a win in the opening week of play. The Hornets were set to play their Homecoming game against the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats this Friday night, however that game has been canceled and details on a a rescheduled Homecoming will come at a later date.

The Bronco Cross Country teams traveled to Mont Belvieu City Park on Saturday, Aug. 2, to compete in the Barbers Hill Soaring Eagle Invitational. Once again, the Broncos faced top-notch competition from all over the Houston area.

All Dayton ISD athletic events will require fans to purchase tickets online. Fans can use the following web address: https://dhs.daytonisd.net/288116_2 to purchase tickets for high school and junior high athletic events. Tickets for events will go on sale the Monday of the event and can also be purchased at the event using a provided QR code. Fans must present their online ticket to be scanned for entrance into the event.

The Freshman team lost to Nederland in two sets with scores of 16-25 and 11-25. The JV team lost to Nederland in two sets with scores of 20- 25 and 17-25. Varsity was unable to eliminate their own errors, which caused Nederland to gain momentum and push points in a row for the Lady Broncos to lose in three sets with scores of 15-25, 9-25, 9-25.
