DEWEYVILLE— Anahuac's Jaytwan Dowdye picked the right time to get hot on Friday afternoon at the Deweyville Tournament against Woodville as the Panthers came from behind to defeat the Eagles 43-40.

Dowdye scored nine of his game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning three-pointer with 26 seconds remaining.

Anahuac had a hard time getting the offense going in the first half as they were held to just 11 points.

Darion Williams got the Panthers on the scoreboard by hitting a three-pointer to tie the score at 3-3.

Elisha Mannino then grabbed an offensive rebound and scored, and Anahuac trailed 10-7 after the opening quarter.

The Panthers were held to just four second quarter points as they trailed 17-11 at the half.

The third saw a different Anahuac team, as Williams started the second half off by hitting on a three-pointer to pull within three, and then Williams scored again off the fastbreak with Tre Smith assisting and Anahuac led 18-17.

Midway through the third quarter, it was Cullen Cotton scoring for the Panthers as they led 20-19 with 4:15 left in the period.

With under two minutes left in the third, Darius Richardson grabbed an offensive rebound and scored for an Anahuac 24-22 lead.

Woodville ended the period on a 6-2 run to regain the lead at 28-26 heading into the fourth quarter of play.

The Eagles extended their lead to 32-26 early in the fourth quarter until a drive and two by Dowdye made it 32-28.

Moments later, it was Mannino hitting a jumper and then a steal and two points by Williams and the Panthers trailed 38-37 with 1:40 remaining in the game.

On the next Anahuac trip down the court, Dowdye connected from the corner on a triple and the Panthers led 40-38.

Woodville then tied the game by hitting on a couple of free throws and then Dowdye did it again with a three-pointer from almost the same spot and Anahuac led by three.

The Panthers then held on defensively the rest of the way to preserve the win.

Williams also finished in double figures with 10 points and Mannino added six.

The Panthers will open district play on Friday night at Orangefield.
