Big second half carries Woodville past Anahuac 37-22
ANAHUAC– Things were looking good for Anahuac as the Panthers led Woodville at intermission on Thursday night. Unfortunately, there are two halves to a football game, and the second half was not kind to the Panthers as they fell to the Eagles at Kyle White Stadium 37-22.
Jaytwan Dowdye had a huge game rushing the football for Anahuac, and his 52-yard touchdown run just three minutes into the game, followed by the PAT, gave the Panthers a 7-0 lead.
Late in the opening quarter, Eagles quarterback Luke Babin scored on a rushing touchdown, and Woodville was down 7-6.
Anahuac would get the only points of the second quarter on a Dowdye touchdown run, and the Panthers led 14-6 at the half.
The third quarter saw the Eagles put up 24 points to take a 30-22 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Panthers kept it a one-possession game until Woodville put the game out of reach with a Saineko Mitchell 85-yard fumble return for a touchdown with five minutes left in the game.
Dowdye finished the game with 210 yards rushing on 26 carries and two scores. Daruis Richardson added 82 yards on the ground, and Jesse Wilcox had 32 yards rushing with a touchdown.
Braydon Sutch passed for 73 yards on 10 of 14 attempts. King Charles caught four passes for 30 yards.
Anahuac (0-2) will travel to Garrison on Friday night.
