DB/GWC alumni award scholarships

WALLISVILLE— The 2025 Double Bayou/George Washington Carver Reunion Committee announced the first recipients of the DB/GWC Legacy Scholarship during the reunion held on Saturday, Aug. 16.  

Recipients of the $1,000 scholarship include MaKhyla Johnson, Shalyn Wedner and La'Vonté Holt.  

Johnson graduated from Anahuac High School and is a sophomore in agriculture-animal science program at Prairie View A&M University.  

Shalyn Wedner recently graduated from Baytown Sterling High School and is a freshman nursing student at Prairie View A&M University.  

La'Vonté Holt graduated from Anahuac High School and graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. He is currently a first-year law student at Thurgood Marshall School of Law.
